Uchharian Mansehra – In a heartbreaking and horrifying incident that has sent shockwaves through Pakistan, a 10-year-old boy named Sufyan was found brutally murdered and beheaded near the Uchharian refugee camp in Mansehra district. The tragedy described by many as one of the most gruesome crimes in recent memory has sparked widespread outrage, fear, and a unified demand for justice from both the local community and the broader public.
The young victim Sufyan was the son of Javed, a resident of Shamlai in Battagram district. He had traveled to Uchharian to spend his summer vacation with his maternal grandfather Muhammad Imran. Imran a laborer who works in Peshawar resides in the refugee camp. What was meant to be a joyful and peaceful visit turned into an unthinkable tragedy when the boy suddenly disappeared while playing outside on a quiet Monday afternoon.
Disappearance and the Horrific Discovery
According to initial accounts from the family and neighbors Sufyan left his grandfather’s home on Monday to play with other children in the neighborhood. Hours passed without his return prompting his family to launch a desperate search. Despite combing the area and alerting neighbors they were unable to locate him.
Tragically the following morning brought a discovery that has haunted the community ever since. Sufyan’s decapitated body was found in a nearby seasonal stream often used as a stormwater drain near the camp. Shockingly his head was missing a detail that has intensified public alarm and raised grim questions about the motives behind the crime.
Baffa Police were promptly alerted and arrived at the scene to secure the area and retrieve the body. It was transported to Baffa Hospital for a postmortem examination. The disturbing nature of the incident quickly drew the attention of senior law enforcement officials. DSP Circle Shinkiari Shah Jahan and SSP Mansehra Reshma Jahangir personally visited the crime scene promising the public that a thorough and technical investigation was already underway.
Official and Community Response
The Assistant Commissioner of Baffa Pakhli also arrived at the scene underlining the seriousness with which the local administration is addressing the matter. Despite these assurances fear and anxiety have engulfed the refugee camp and surrounding areas as parents and residents struggle to come to terms with the cruelty inflicted on a child in what should be a place of safety and community.
In a heartfelt and emotional statement to Shumal newspaper Muhammad Imran — Sufyan’s grandfather — broke down in tears. “This innocent child who came to us for the holidays has been subjected to unspeakable cruelty” he said. “We don’t have enmity with anyone We appeal to the authorities to bring the criminals to justice as soon as possible”
In the early stages of the investigation police detained several Afghan boys living in the area for questioning. While no formal accusations have been made public police sources confirmed that multiple leads are being explored. Authorities are reportedly reviewing security footage gathering forensic evidence and interviewing witnesses in and around the camp.
The boy’s father Javed who was in Karachi at the time of the incident immediately began his journey back to Uchharian upon receiving the devastating news. The funeral is expected to be held shortly after his arrival with the community already preparing for what will be a deeply sorrowful gathering.

For the people of Uchharian and the greater Mansehra region the murder of Sufyan has become a symbol of deeper issues — the vulnerability of displaced communities the lack of resources for public safety and the urgent need for institutional reform. It has also exposed how children in such areas can become victims of neglect and violence without adequate safeguards.
